Reminder: Cupping Event This Saturday At 6pm

For those of you still who missed the first post, there is still room, but not much. We are holding a cupping event at Simons Coffee Shop this Saturday evening (the 21st), and there are a few spots still open. The event will be at 6pm (some of you heard 7pm, but it's 6). Coffee's from top roasters around the country including Ecco Caffe, Paradise Coffee Roasters, Counter Culture Coffee, Atomic Cafe and some special guests in a traditional cupping led by the Barismo crew. There will be an introduction to coffee tasting (cupping) at the event and a vac pot demo, so no prior experience is at all necessary. RSVP at events@barismo.com and if you haven't received a confirmation email, then please write us again for confirmation.

wish i could join you guys but i won't be heading up this weekend after all. but i'll definitely be there in the future. ;)

okay, i got your coffees from simon. i did as you asked and broke into them. i may not do as you ask and send the rest on to you. just kidding, of course. i'll ship them on post haste.

Aaron,

Let me know what you think... be sure to get the brewing instruction from Jaime... or you can just cup it (and let it cool please) =)

ben/jaime: coffees mailed. i can receive the brewing instructions for press, pour over, hario cloth pour over or aeropress.

i can't read most of the characters on the two labels, but one said in english "20% Kona" on it and was very (imo) dark roasted...oils on the surface. i was confused.

maybe i'll blog my thoughts on it.

jaime, when it arrives please fill me in on what those are/were. i also sent y'all some greens of the kaffa natural forest for your edutainment.

oh yeah, ben, i get what you mean by let it cool. when i tasted it via regular paper pourover it did not clarify until midway down the cup. is this the fvh???

Aaron,

The 20% Kona is an espresso blend, pulled at a very specific and non-conventional (by US standard) parameter... I don't think it will taste good any other way.

The other bag (bigger one) is the Idido Misty Valley. Try doing a regular cupping. I am not sure the dose for yor methods, but try at 91 degree C.

idido misty valley? really? interesting.

how'd it go, guys? was it worth missing the red sox take it to the yanks, you fair-weatherers?

Hey Aaron, it actually went very well for our first attempt at leading a cupping event. There were a few organizational aspects that we could definitely improve on, but I think those who attended really enjoyed themselves. It was interesting to be on the other side of things. I didn't get to taste that much coffee because unfortunately because I was fielding questions and chatting with people, but hey, that's what its all about. No worries because there are enough leftovers for like 10 people. HAHA, good times.
