Huky300 Coffee Roaster
Capacity: 100~360g (3.5~12.7oz), 250g (8.8oz) recommended (limited by cooling)

Mirror Polished 304 Stainless Steel


Perforated Stainless Steel Drum with dual agitator vanes (4.7" diameter x ~0.1" thick)
50rpm-24VDC motor (running @ 20VDC -40rpm)


Custom machined stainless steel axial/bearing (vacuum heat treated)


Bean sampler and quick release gate
Solid rosewood handle
Dual temperature probe: type-K thermocouple and analog


Exhaust vent with gate valve and chaff collector


Accessories: Storage bucket, cooling basket, cooling/exhaust fan, DC power supply, bean funnel (hand made)


High-output Portable Butane Gas Stove with ceramic element (for infrared heat)


Just about every single piece on this roaster is hand made due to the limited production number. Everything is made to last at very high fit and finish (the thing is almost entirely of stainless). The craftsmanship is amazing.

I've done two roasts with it and it's not an easy roaster to use due to its all manual nature. I never use a direct flame drum roaster, let alone one that has air-flow control. The bean probe is very accurate and the thick gauge steel drum is able to retain heat once up to temperature. There are much to learn from this setup but I believe it will teach me more than any currently available home roasters (sample roaster does not count...).

I'd love to know what you think about this when you get to know it a bit. Its gorgeous none the less.
 
I'll probably have all of that guat sorted and ready to roast by the time you come back. CANNOT WAIT.
 
Hey guys,
Don't forget it's quite low in room temperature there in the US. The Huky 300 might not be so stable when weather condition is not good. :)
 
Thanks for the tip, but the temperature in bens house is like 75f/24c degrees So I think we should be good.
 
Ken- how on earth did you come by this machine? I did a quick google search and came up empty... I'm very intrigued.

Do a google search on "Huky300" and don't limit your result to just English. You will find couple entries. There are also some discussion on alt.coffee a while back, but the information is limited as the poster do not read Chinese and could not get as detail information as I could.

Hey Ben; just a quick little experiment - what about putting a diffusion plate over the flame to try and get everything to heat a little bit more evenly? You'd just need some sort of thin piece of metal ...
 
Luca- I think that might actually do more harm than good. While even heat distribution is key, by putting metal in between the flame and the drum you are creating a greater lag time from when you adjust the flame to when that adjustment takes effect. Essentially, you want the flame to be as direct as posible. Also, the movement of the beans in the drum and our small batch size will probably yeild roasts that very even. We will know very soon...
 
It seems to hold heat raly well, almost too well from ben's initial observations.

IR heat baby, glows in the dark as it begins warming. Entire machine is hand manufactured. I'm just wowed by the completeness of it but it looks like a serious headache as there are no simple parts. it's a tiny pro machine.
